Title: Literarische Übersetzungskritik und Hermeneutik
Issue Date: 2018
Abstract: This paper examines various examples of texts translatedfrom Portuguese into German by Georg Rudolf Lind. These examples, taken from his translations of works by VergílioFerreira, Agustina Bessa Luís, and Fernando Pessoa, showthe degree to which Linds own profile as a translator has animpact on the translated texts. In this essay, my analytical referencepoint is the requirement of coherence of the overall textcomposition (Stolze 1982: 326). Thematic coherence and consistencyis of paramount importance. The results of my analysiswill reveal that, while the translation strategy used by theGerman translator contributes to the creation of good, legibletarget texts, it cannot always do justice to the peculiarities ofthe source texts.
