Abstract

What does Os Lusíadas reveal about the salvation of the world? Can the great monument of the Portuguese language be understood as a poem of salvation, given the brutality of the world it portrays? What, then, is the nature of the world recorded by the poet, and why does it "deserve" to be saved? This article seeks to identify, within Camões's epic, some of the elements that attest to the centrality of the theme of the salvation of the world in the poem.
