Bissau: Para Além da Dicotomia - Urbanismo e Arquitetura

Abstract

The work that is intended to be carried out aims to study and analyze the process of urban and architectural development of the city of Bissau between pre-colonialism and postindependence in the 1970s in Guinea-Bissau. In the post-independence period, the cyclical political crises have hindered the socio-economic development of the country, having as one of the consequences the privatization of public buildings, devaluation of the architectural heritage, especially the individualistic conception, as well as a disorderly and irregular urban growth. The theme of the Investigation arises as a need to frame the urban issues under study on a more particular scale, in which will be addressed problems characteristic of the city, local traditions, distinct urban settlements, architectural disparity, and the possible influences from colonization to post-independence, through a critical approach, considering the intersection between different paradigms of urbanism and architecture, taking into account.
