Educação para uma 'sociedade de risco': ensinar e aprender a (con)viver com os perigos e desastres

Abstract

Education for a 'risk society': teaching and learning to (con)live with hazards and disasters. As a fundamental domain of Citizenship Education, learning to live in a 'risk society' implies the definition of a set of guidelines in order to promote a culture of prevention and self-protection of children and young people facing the occurrence of harmful events, regardless of their origin. Considering the normative framework of the educational system in Portugal, as well as the pedagogical methods/strategies that should be privileged nowadays, a series of reflections on 'hazards and disasters' are presented which, in the context of the training of young teachers of Geography of the University of Porto, served as inspiration for the implementation of active teaching and learning methodologies, namely through Project Based Learning, developed in collaboration with students of basic and secondary schools.
