Title: A Strategic Management Model in Engineering Education

Abstract: This article begins by a theoretical analysis of the strategic management process. A newoverall model is developed and applied to Engineering Education that is based upon astrategic rationale. In this model, it is analysed the importance of the university/facultystructure, their environment and their real and potential inter-connections and integratedrelations with the internal and the external environmental agents and features.Finally, a case study is featured: The Oporto Faculty of Engineering. The inter-connectionswith the environment reality are pointed out: the community in general, the governmentalorganisms, the financing funds, the research and development centres, the firms and theindustry, the professional associations, the graduated students, and the other high level andprofessional schools.
