Title: Interactive educational software for dynamic systems control

Abstract: This paper describes a tool for interactivelearning that can be used as a teaching aid in controlsystems theory. It can be used by students for problemsolving and individual learning. It can also be a powerfultool for speeding up the development cycle for robotcontrol systems. As there is no need to do any specialprogramming or debugging, the students can focus on thecontrol items. The developed system is ready to use andallows testing different control methods. Usually, incontrol theory classes, students face a system defined onlyas a mathematical equation. The developed applicationallows them to control a realistic system with almost realworld dynamics. A friendly appearance based on 3Dgraphics captivates the student's attention and givesinstant feedback on the controller performance. As a casestudy, an inverted pendulum is controlled while placedon an omnidirectional vehicle. The inverted pendulumposes a classical control problem, a nonlinear andunstable system, typical of a large number of devices suchas Segway Human Transporter and Rocket navigation.Omnidirectional vehicles allow movements in everydirection and they are widely used in robotics soccerwhere the extra mobility is an important advantage.
