| Title: | European seaports in the Early Modern Age : concepts, methodology and models of analysis |
| Publisher: | [S.l.] : Centre de la Méditerranée Moderne et Contemporaine (CMMC) |
| Issue Date: | 2010 |
| Abstract: | The accuracy of comparative studies on seaports is undeniable in a European context, as well as at a global level. This approach requires the existence of a common framework able to produce systematic insights on seaport studies. This essay aims to present some considerations based on a few key-concepts and to propose a possible methodological orientation, sustained by some theoretical guidance. Assuming the strategic importance of seaports in Early Modern Age, the paper will try to apply and check the pertinence of the proposed variables, when applied to European seaports in order to discuss the (in) existence of models in what concerns seaport dynamics in the period under analysis. |
