| Abstract: | In the first part of this talk we address some topics central to the history of semantics, the problems encountered and some of the solutions proposed. In the second part some classical examples that changed the way the problems were viewed in semantics are presented and in the third part the importance of formalization is pointed out. In the fourth and fifth parts new ways of looking at the problems are mentioned, particularly the innovative concept of dynamic meaning, which opened recent directions in semantics allowing new forms of interaction with other areas like lexicon, syntax and pragmatics. |
| Description: | Nos últimos trinta/quarenta anos a semântica deixou de ocupar um lugar periférico na teoria da gramática para ter um papel marcante na investigação em linguística. Por isso faz sentido hoje equacionar esse papel e a relevância da semântica no conjunto dos conhecimentos linguísticos que possuímos. Ao abordar esta problemática, gostaria, no entanto, de alertar para o facto de esta apresentação ser parcial em vários sentidos. Com efeito, selecciono apenas alguns modelos ou teorias e mesmo relativamente a estes só alguns aspectos são mencionados. Mas estes são caminhos actuais da semântica em que os modelos deixaram de ser, em grande parte, totais, para serem parciais, como se verá mais à frente. |
