Entre o Românico e a Ruína. Contributos para a Intervenção na Igreja de São Pedro da Ermida do Douro

Abstract

This dissertation aims to develop an intervention strategy to be applied to a heritage site. The case study focuses on the Ermida do Douro, located in the parish of Oliveira do Douro, municipality of Cinfães, district of Viseu. It is a Romanesque construction that currently lies in a state of ruin, showing several pathologies resulting from prolonged lack of maintenance and the absence of adequate protective measures. The research, of a theoretical and practical nature, highlighted the need for the enhancement and safeguarding of this heritage. Thus, it proposes the definition of an intervention methodology that allows for its preservation and recognition, even in its current ruined condition. The methodological process began with the survey and analysis of the existing building, including photographic documentation and graphical representation of the site. This stage aimed to understand the construction in its various dimensions, from its original configuration to the transformations it underwent over time, in order to support an intervention that respects its historical and architectural continuity. Based on these studies and on consultation with the local community, the decision was made to preserve the ruin within the landscape, as a strategy for enjoyment and valorisation, maintaining its architectural identity, its integration into the territory, and its relevance within the collective memory.
