| Title: | Waterfall accidents in Peneda-Gerês National Park, Portugal: insights from news reports |

| Abstract: | This study examines accidents occurring at waterfalls in Portugal's Peneda-Gerês National Park (PGNP) between 2017 and 2025, with particular emphasis on the Arado and Fecha das Barjas sites. The analysis is based on an inventory compiled from photographs and reports published in local and national newspapers. Over the study period, 60 incidents were recorded, most of which occurred during the summer months. Most accidents resulted from falls on slippery bedrock surfaces. Contributing factors included poor signage, unsuitable footwear, and risky or negligent visitor behavior.
