| Abstract: | This architectural dissertation, entitled Inhabiting the Routine, is dedicated to the study of the relationship between habit and routine. Drawing on the etymological origins of habitus, a way of being, and rota, the repetition that structures inhabiting, the research argues that architecture can be conceived from the perspective of how everyday practices shape the experience of space. Inhabiting the Routine focuses on a critical examination of domesticity, understood from the dynamic relationship between inhabitant and dweller - in accordance with the theoretical contributions of Michel de Certeau and Gaston Bachelard, for whom ordinary gestures, when observed closely, reveal the poetics of everyday life. The research is structured in three chapters. The central objective is to understand the implications of everyday practices on the design and use of space, as well as to reflect on the role of the home as a support and expression of daily life. The first chapter, On the thought of dwelling, establishes a theoretical foundation that combines contributions from anthropology, philosophy, and phenomenology. This chapter highlights the relationship between humankind/space, problematized and presented in the architectural training developed at the Porto School. The second chapter, On the pedagogical thought of the Anthropology of Space focuses on the teachings of director Ricardo Pais, the origins of the Viseu Pedagogical Unit, and the analysis of House 1, used as a case study. The third chapter, On the design experience of Inhabiting Scenography, addresses the transition to the realm of architectural practice and culminates in the design of a stage production. In this experience, the architect's craft is called upon to embody previously developed concepts, allowing the theoretically reflected condition of inhabiting to be tested on stage. The methodology combines critical bibliographical analysis, historical research in relevant archives (the General Archives of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, the Viriato Theater, and the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian), and artistic creation, allowing for the articulation of theory and practice. Finally, the final considerations provide a space for critical reflection, combining the synthesis of content with an analysis of the achievement of objectives, culminating in the projection of a horizon of continuity. |
| Description: | A presente dissertação em arquitetura, intitulada Habitar a Rotina, dedica-se ao estudo da relação entre hábito e rotina. Partindo das origens etimológicas de habitus, modo de estar, e rota, a repetição que estrutura o habitar, a investigação defende que a arquitetura pode ser pensada a partir da forma como as práticas quotidianas configuram a experiência do espaço. Habitar a Rotina centra-se numa auscultação crítica da domesticidade, entendida a partir da relação dinâmica entre habitante-habitar - de acordo com os contributos teóricos de Michel de Certeau e Gaston Bachelard, para quem os gestos ordinários, quando observados com atenção, revelam poéticas do quotidiano. A estrutura da investigação desenvolve-se em três capítulos. O objetivo central consiste em compreender as implicações das práticas diárias do quotidiano na conceção e no uso do espaço, assim como refletir sobre o papel da casa como suporte e expressão da vida diária. O primeiro capítulo, Do pensamento sobre o habitar, estabelece uma base teórica que articula contributos da antropologia, da filosofia e da fenomenologia. Nesse percurso, destaca-se a relação entre o homem/espaço, problematizada e exposta ao nível da formação arquitetónica desenvolvida na Escola do Porto. O segundo capítulo, Do pensamento pedagógico da Antropologia do Espaço, incide sobre o ensino do encenador Ricardo Pais, a origem da Unidade Pedagógica de Viseu, e a análise da Casa 1, tomada como caso de estudo. O terceiro capítulo, Da experiência projetual de cenografia do habitar, situa-se na transição para o domínio da prática arquitetónica e culmina na elaboração projetual de uma criação cénica para teatro. Nesta experiência, o ofício do arquiteto é convocado para corporizar os conceitos previamente desenvolvidos, permitindo que a condição do habitar refletida teoricamente seja testada em palco. A metodologia combina o estudo crítico da bibliografia, a investigação histórica em arquivos relevantes (Arquivo Geral da Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade do Porto, Teatro Viriato, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian) e a criação artística, permitindo articular teoria e prática. Por último, as considerações finais constituem um espaço de reflexão crítica, articulando a síntese de conteúdos com uma análise da concretização dos objetivos, culminando na projeção de um horizonte de continuidade. |
