A face invisível da Inspeção do Trabalho: uma análise da atividade aos técnicos de apoio à Atividade Inspetiva

Abstract

This study aims to understand the work carried out by support technicians in the inspection activities at the Autoridade para as Condições de Trabalho (ACT), highlighting their contribution to the management of cases that are subject to analysis and intervention by labor inspectors, as well as the aspects of this contribution that remain less visible. To address this objective, a qualitative methodology was adopted, developed in two phases: in the first phase, observations of the technicians' work activities were conducted, followed, in the second phase, by semi-structured interviews not only with the technicians but also with coordinating inspectors, in order to better understand their perceptions regarding the role, challenges, and recognition of their work, as well as its impact on their health and well-being. The results show that these technicians play an essential role within the inspection structure, ensuring the screening, organization, and management of the processes that support inspectors' field interventions. However, it was also found that they face several constraints, such as work overload, lack of resources, and the expectation of greater recognition - factors that directly affect their performance and well-being. In a context of significant macrostructural changes that have marked the reconfiguration of work and the conditions under which it is performed (technological, ecological, and demographic changes), the number of inspection cases is expected to increase, requiring careful monitoring of response times, careful prioritization, and greater attention to the demands this places on the activities of these technicians.
