Arquipélago de Territórios: Açores como Emergência de Tecnoestruturas Geopolíticas

Abstract

In contemporary studies, the concept of "territory" is often associated with an area, referring to mostly static formulations. However, as a discourse and as a practice, territory operates through a set of instruments and political technologies that require re-evaluation. The proposed analysis of the Azores implies problematizing it as an object, the target of particular, disparate and polyhedral representations, since they can be described from a political, geographical, historical, legal, architectural, urbanistic, cultural and mediatic point of view. They all intersect the methodological lens that favors technological and technical instruments. The aim of this research is to understand how, based on the definition of island, as a portion of land surrounded by water, and archipelago, as an agglomeration of islands, paradigmatic forms of territorial production are established, which are central to social and identity (re)productions, where land, water and air merge and form, producing territorialities. Essentially, it establishes a commitment to the present time, using strategic retreats. The theoretical cuts presented emphasize events that are "in the middle of things": in media res, thus creating an archipelago.
