| dc.description.abstract | Objectives: The objective of this study is to assess the potential benefits of incorporating GLP-1 analogues as adjuvant treatment in patients after bariatric surgery. Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted, accessing MEDLINE (through PubMed), Web of Science and Scopus databases, until October 2023. Studies about the use of postoperative GLP-1 analogues after metabolic surgery were integrated. Data on weight change, total weight loss percentage and body index mass change were extracted. Results: A total of 12 studies met the eligibility criteria which involved 975 participants. The analysis revealed a significant correlation between the use of GLP-1 analogues and weight reduction, which indicated that GLP-1 analogues might confer advantageous outcomes for weight reduction following bariatric surgery. Conclusion: This systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrate that the use of GLP-1 analogues in addition to surgical interventions demonstrate potential for favourable outcomes offering a viable option for individuals experiencing suboptimal results following bariatric surgery. | |
