Eixos do Movimento Moderno: análise a partir das relações de género e o modo de habitar

Abstract

The present dissertation aims to comprehend and analyze the factors that influenced the modern architectural movement, considering gender relations and housing patterns. To achieve this, we investigated how modes of production, influenced by the Industrial Revolution, manifested within domestic environments, as well as how housing reflects social and cultural relationships. We also examined how 20th-century architecture sought to express the ideals of society and its culture during that era. Furthermore, we endeavored to identify how gender relations manifested themselves in modern architecture through symbolism and metaphors. Through a comprehensive review of literature, encompassing books, dissertations, and articles related to the subject, we sought to understand how the modernist domestic space reflects historical, social, and cultural constructs that may perpetuate traditions and norms. These may be conveyed through explicit construction techniques or more subtly through ideals and symbolism. In this context, we presented two case studies that served as examples to analyze these dynamics and thereby demonstrate how architecture can influence the experience and gender relations through the built environment.
