Minas de Vieiros: além da memória

Abstract

This dissertation has as its main core Vieiros village and its mining abandoned complex. This minig complex is situated at the step slope near Olo river in Amarante. The methods used to get a thorough knowledge of this region were the amount of time spent on the ground, the collection of information about the previous mining activity and the interviews among Vieiros's population and previous miners. Taking this information into account, it is possible to build a strong framework to enable the requalification of the site, once a social, economic and exploitation centre. Having in mind a transformative and complementary action, it is proposed to build a museum and living space and simultaneously take some action to rebuild the existing mining complex. The main reason to do so is due to the fact that this mining complex constitutes a valuable heritage and is the guardian of the memory and history of those who worked there. This project tends to be the first step to give this mining complex its actual value and importance back.
