O Professor Universitário e Médico José Manuel de Pina Cabral, um marco na história da Fisiologia portuense

Abstract

José Manuel Gonçalves de Pina Cabral, born in 1929 in Porto, was a renowned researcher in Thrombosis and Hemostasis. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Porto in 1952, and his journey in the Physiology Service began in 1955 when he was invited to the position of 2nd Assistant of Physiology of the 2nd Group. In 1982, he was appointed Professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine and became the Director of that Service. He was the Director of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Porto in the mandates that followed April 25th, a member of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the International Society of Hematology, and the European Thrombosis Research Organization, a founding member of the Portuguese Society of Physiology, a member of the Portuguese Societies of Hematology, Thrombosis and Hemostasis, and Electron Microscopy, and belonged to the World Federation of Hemophilia. He was also known for his many collections, including the collection of Portuguese modern painting, which gave him great prominence in the world of Art. He was a charismatic figure in his field of study, but fundamentally in the way he conducted himself socially and culturally.
