| Abstract: | The work that follows is intended to be, above all, a reflection about the reality that surrounds me, from which I try to look into the situation of architecture and urbanism in the periphery of the urban centres in low Minho. To this end it was studied the parish of Trandeiras, located 6 km south from the centre of Braga, where I currently live. The epicentre of this work, is one of the many outbuildings, rudimentary built, mainly since the 50's, to meet the requirements of a lifestyle that is still connected with an acute rural past. However, this, was chosen for having the particularity of, after being abandoned, have been spontaneously transformed into a social living space and an important dynamic force for the community. All this happened without any kind of project and without an architect, as to what happens with most of the constructions in this region, where the importance of these professionals is still not recognized. With this construction as the epicentre, it is intended to discuss what is Architecture after all and what influence can it play in the way we live and coexist. But above all it is discussed the self-construction issue, by trying to understand the reasons behind its emergence and proliferation, what influence it has on the image and land management, what will be the responsibility of the architects in this situation and what attitude to adopt towards this reality. In the end it is developed a proposal for a "new" Barracão, which attempts to synthesize and present in design what has been studied in this work. |
| Description: | O trabalho que se segue, pretende ser, acima de tudo, uma reflexão sobre a realidade que me rodeia, a partir da qual tento lançar um olhar sobre o estado da arquitectura e do urbanismo na periferia dos centros urbanos do Baixo Minho. Para esse efeito foi estudada a freguesia de Trandeiras, situada 6km a sul do centro de Braga, onde resido actualmente. O epicentro deste trabalho é um dos inúmeros anexos, construídos de forma rudimentar sobretudo a partir da década de 50, para satisfazer as exigências de um estilo de vida que ainda mantém relações com um intenso passado rural. No entanto, este foi escolhido por ter a particularidade de, depois de ter ficado ao abandono, se ter transformado espontaneamente num espaço de convívio e importante dinamizador da comunidade. Tudo isto ocorreu sem projecto e sem arquitecto, à semelhança do que acontece com a generalidade das construções desta região, onde continua a não ser reconhecida a importância do trabalho destes profissionais. Com esta construção como epicentro, procura-se debater o que é afinal arquitectura e qual a influencia que ela pode desempenhar na forma como vivemos e convivemos. Mas acima de tudo, discute-se o tema da auto construção, tentando perceber as razões que levam ao seu aparecimento e proliferação, qual a influencia que tem na imagem e ordenamento do território, qual poderá ser a responsabilidade dos arquitectos nesta situação e que postura adoptar perante esta realidade. No final é desenvolvida uma proposta para um ―novo‖ Barracão, que tenta sintetizar e colocar em desenho o que foi estudado ao longo deste trabalho. |
