| Title: | Sexual function in eating disorders: a cross-sectional study |

| Abstract: | The present study aimed to evaluate the sexual function in people with eating disorders (EDs). The 55 participants were administered a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire and the Massachusetts General Hospital - Sexual Function Questionnaire (MGH-SFQ). We found lower median sexual function on active anorexia nervosa (AN), lower body mass indexes (BMI) and older people. After controlling for several variables, only age and BMI remained significantly associated with the differences observed between active AN and other EDs, whereas only age was related to the differences between active AN and remissive AN. These findings provide insight on different care possibilities for differently susceptible groups, intending to improve these patients' sexual function. |
| Description: | Pretende-se com o presente estudo avaliar a função sexual de pessoas com perturbações do comportamento alimentar (PCAs). Os 55 participantes responderam a um questionário de índole clínica e sociodemográfica e à escala Massachusetts General Hospital - Sexual Function Questionnaire (MGH-SFQ). Foi encontrada uma função sexual mediana diminuída em pacientes com anorexia nervosa (AN) ativa, em índices de massa corporal (IMC) mais diminutos e em pessoas mais velhas. Após ajustar para diversas variáveis, apenas a idade e o IMC se mantiveram significativamente associados com as diferenças observadas entre a AN ativa e as restantes PCAs, enquanto que apenas a idade estava relacionada com as diferenças entre a AN ativa e a AN remissiva. Estes resultados são elucidativos relativamente às diferentes possibilidades terapêuticas indicadas para grupos variavelmente suscetíveis, visando melhorar a função sexual destes pacientes. |
