| Title: | Reabilitação da Escola - Externato Bom Jesus - Modelo Escola da Ponte |
| Issue Date: | 2011-12-15 |
| Abstract: | This dissertation is based on the proposed rehabilitation of 'Externato Bom Jesus' School in Porto, taking into consideration the model of active teaching, observed on the model school "Escola da Ponte." A produced study on school architecture is intended, in order to reach a better understanding of its complexity. The child is taken as the central theme of concern and the school building will be studied as its reflection. As a start point, a critique will be made about traditional schools, for remaining focused on the teacher figure and for not being suitable for the children of actual times. In the first part, a contextual study is elaborated about school development. It will approach the international context, which is defined by the 'new' social and philosophical trends and by the rupture movements with traditional teaching. It also mentions some of the key figures that contributed to the triggering of these same events. Then follows the educational situation of our country, showing how it's reflected in school buildings until the development of the first innovative model. In the second chapter, after the contextual analysis, a study will be done on some of the important factors in designing educational spaces that aim to find solutions so that school architecture can intervene in a disciplined manner in pedagogical activities. Issues such as the handling and flexibility of space are taken as the main core in the development of this chapter. In the end, there is a small review on some examples of school buildings that are relevant in some aspects to this study. In the third chapter, the model will be introduced. It represents the only case of a Portuguese school of 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle adopting an innovative model where the child is the agent of greatest importance - the 'Escola da Ponte'. Attention will be made to the pedagogical practices of this school, and to how they intervene in the individual spaces. Finally, following this study, in the last chapter we will approach the project. With the acquired notions about space and through the educational model of 'Escola da Ponte', the intervention will be made on the 'Externato Bom Jesus' building. The concern of most relevance to this project was to reorganize and upgrade the school so that students and teachers can intervene in space and appropriate it to the various educational activities. It also gives special attention to the acquiring of a character of 'comfort' to the building, in order to make the child happy in the school environment. |
Finalmente, no seguimento deste estudo, surge no último capítulo, o Projecto. |
