Arquitectura Religiosa Contemporânea. A Essência do Espaço Sagrado do Século XX

Abstract

Since the beginning of times that mankind thinks about the need of creating a symbolic space to achieve the spiritual dimention of the sacred/divine. This conception involves the conjugation of two concepts which are intimated relationed: religion and architecture. Meanwhile one of them becomes the generating force which moves men to wish to build secret spaces, the other one allows, through physical materials, the construction of those same spaces. In this sense, along the History, we will analyse the bigger or the smaller degree of importance of the conception of sacred spaces for the civilizations who built those spaces. This study will be focused at the contemporaneous catholic cult building, trying to understand in which way its conception represents a solution of continuity or, the other way, non-continuity with the tradition of the Christian religion architecture.
