O Lugar como Referência: Projecto de reabilitação nas margens do rio Lima

Abstract

In response to a request made by a family member to carry out a rehabilitation project of three ruined houses in the village of Nigueiroá, Bande (Galicia), emerged the idea of writing a master's thesis on architecture as a means to acquire a better knowledge of the area and as a starting point for the project. The first chapter of this thesis deals with the framework of the territorial district of Bande, also stating the topography, hydrography, vegetation type, climate and demographic changes over the last century. The next chapter consists of the study of the historical developments of the county since the beginning of its settlement, to the division of Hispania in realms, following "Castreja" culture, the Romanization of the territory, the barbarian invasions and the implementation of Christianity till the formation of Christian parishes. All these historical periods are well represented in the archeological findings in the Bande region. Once understood how the parishes were built, I shifted the study from general to specific, regarding only the village of Nigueiroá. I made a formal analysis, studying the structure and implementation of the clusters associated with the regional toponymics. I chose three case studies (three houses) and through them, tried to show the kind of popular and rural architecture that was built in this village. After displaying the houses to be rehabilitated, I presented the strategies applied to the project3;s execution, what is intended to be maintained, built and destroyed, following the presentation of the plans, sections and elevations according to the intervention in the three houses.
