Abstract

From the shared interest in architecture and the sea, rises a need to study and reflect on a topic that is directly related to the limits of the coast: the natural pools of Mosteiros on the island of São Miguel. Seek to reflect on the architecture of intervention in natural pools, an architecture for integration and interaction. The aim is to make a reflection on an intervention from the analysis of land and access in view of the surrounding context. This discussion is the study of similar cases on the coast of São Miguel island, and after interpreting them, one tries to absorb forms of intervention and to relate them to the pools of Mosteiros. Aim is to understand the limits of the swimming pools opened to the sea and to the tides. Analyze the importance and character of an architectural level of support equipment pools in nature and especially the importance of the choice of materials and shapes can exercise this type of intervention. The work evolves from a general approach on Mosteiros, its location on the island of Sao Miguel, as well as its structure and planning. As a result of the reflection, it is suggested that a proposal with interventional assumptions that differ from the analysis on how they interfere with the coastal landscape in São Miguel, thus disclose the ability of the human landscape of a processor based on a thorough knowledge of territory.
