Museu e Guerra: Interceções Arquitectónicas sobre o Abrigo e a Rutura da Memória

Abstract

The present essay was motivated by my Erasmus experience in Gdansk. It develops in the field of thought and architectural design, focusing the Museum and War themes. The goal is to develop a reflection about the relation between Museum and War. From an historical and architectural point of view, it is intended to draw a common evolutionary pathway to these issues recognizing their importance in the formation of new concepts and pratices. During the development of this study, it was assumed as driving force the recent rehabilitation plan of the northern part of Gdansk, involving the famous shipyards. The structure is developed in five phases. In the first phase objects of study and goals are detailed. The second and third chapters explore the concepts of Museum and War and their conection with architecture. This approach focuses a specific historical period aiming the concept of museum as an architectural typology susceptible to mutations . Alongside an approach to the physical and intlectual production during the war periods is made. The fourth consists in collecting relevant museum buildings. These case studies will be analysed individually and compared, in order to understand the different ways of approaching the program. In the fifth stage, with a conclusive character, a reflection on the matters previously handled is defined.
