| Abstract: | S. Paulo was an indefatigable traveller. This geographical study aims to recognize the spiritual drift that animates the concrete expression of travel, to place the historical geography of travel in a broader cultural and epistemological context. From the moment we are freed from the imposition of morphology, a geographical commentary will be proposed on some aspects of St. Paul's travels and writings around three interrelated dimensions -'space', 'landscape' and 'place'- considering the political, epistemological, and cultural effects of the exercise of power, of representational devices and the concretization of the practice of the body. Epistemologically, a 'theory of practice', existential and incarnate, becomes necessary, to avoid morphologically simplified explanations and that the representational indications of the text appear too conspicuous on its surface. |
| Description: | S. Paulo foi um viajante invulgar. Este estudo geográfico tem o objectivo de reconhecer a deriva espiritual que anima a expressão concreta da viagem, de modo a situar a geografia histórica das viagens num contexto cultural e epistemológico mais vasto. A partir do momento em que nos libertamos da imposição da morfologia, propor‑se‑á um comentário geográfico de alguns aspectos das viagens e escritos de S. Paulo em redor de três dimensões que se relacionam entre si -'espaço', 'paisagem' e 'lugar'- tomando em consideração os efeitos políticos, epistemológicos e culturais do exercício de poder, dos dispositivos de representação e da concretização da prática do corpo. Epistemologicamente, torna-se necessária uma 'teoria da prática', existencial e incarnada, de modo a evitar explicações morfologicamente simplificadas e que as indicações representacionais do texto surjam conspícuas na sua superfície. |
