| Title: | Espinho-Mar: uma hipótese para a frente-marítima |

| Abstract: | This master dissertation is composed of four parts which deal with the central topic of the project. This structure is related to an analysis which follows a logic order, from the great/global scale to the scales used in urban design. In the first chapter, the research is focused on looking for answers to some essential urbanistic questions, with the purpose of understanding the essence, the function and the challenges related to the water front integrated in an urban context. The second chapter deals with the concept of urban project identifying its mains directions and its application in real life, taking into consideration the fact that, for each case, there are different solutions, both of programmatic and formal nature. Three different proposals are analyzed: two of them having been applied and the third one existing only in plans. These proposals were chosen in order to show solutions presented to solve real problems, which were conceived considering functional conditions and urban design. The third chapter is focused on the characterization and the development of the background of the area by means of an historical analysis of the evolution and transformation of the coast at Espinho between the end of the 19th century and the current time. This chapter is closed by the presentation of a diagnose. Finally, in the fourth and last chapter, the programmatic setting is drawn and the proposal for the water front is presented. It was designed on the basis of the research whose results were presented in the previous chapters. This proposal concerns the transformation of the waterfront at Espinho promoting a new centrality characterized by the quality and the diversity of the spaces included in it and their uses and also the concern about the integration in the local context. |
| Description: | A presente dissertação sustenta-se em quatro partes, que dão corpo ao tema principal. Poder-se-á dizer, que a sua estrutura decorre de uma análise que segue uma ordem, desde a grande escala, até às escalas próprias do desenho urbano. No primeiro capítulo, a investigação orienta-se na procura das respostas relativas a algumas questões urbanas fundamentais, com o objectivo de compreender o significado, funcionamento e os desafios inerentes à frente de água, dentro dos seus âmbitos e contextos de aplicação na cidade. Um segundo capítulo da dissertação, introduz o conceito de projecto urbano através da identificação dos princípios orientadores e das suas aplicações na vida real, sabendo que, para cada caso, surgem soluções programáticas e formais diferentes, únicas e intrínsecas às características do lugar. Observar-se-ão três propostas distintas - duas delas concretizadas e uma outra que não chegou a sair dos planos - escolhidas com o intuito de demonstrar respostas a problemas concretos, através de soluções capazes de valorizar as condições funcionais e do desenho urbano. O terceiro capítulo, compromete-se à caracterização e desenvolvimento do enquadramento do lugar, através da análise histórica da evolução e transformação da costa de Espinho entre finais do século XIX e a actualidade. Este capítulo termina com a elaboração de um cenário diagnóstico. Por fim, no quarto e último capítulo, procede-se à definição do quadro programático e apresentação da proposta para a frente marítima, baseada na aplicação da investigação discorrida ao longo dos capítulos anteriores. Tal proposta de intervenção, prevê a transformação da frente de mar de Espinho, promovendo a construção de uma nova centralidade, caracterizada pela qualidade e variedade dos espaços e usos propostos, assim como pelo sentido de integração face ao contexto local |
