| Abstract: | Amândio Sampaio Tavares was born on December 26th, 1928, in Porto. Those who knew him described him as a cultured humble man, who enthused everyone with his insatiable thirst for knowledge. Full Professor of General Pathology and Medical Genetics at the Faculty of Medicine of Porto and specialist in three Colleges: Pathological Anatomy, General Pathology and Medical Genetics, it was as a geneticist that he stood out the most, having been a pioneer in the recognition of its Medical value. He was also president of the Scientific Council and Director of the same Faculty, which witnessed his academic and professional path. |
| Description: | Amândio Sampaio Tavares nasceu a 26 de dezembro de 1928, no Porto. Quem o conheceu, descreve-o como um homem culto e humilde, que contagiava todos com a sua sede insaciável de conhecimento. Professor Catedrático de Patologia Geral e de Genética Médica da Faculdade de Medicina do Porto e especialista de três Colégios: Anatomia Patológica, Patologia Geral e Genética Médica, foi como Geneticista que mais se destacou, tendo sido pioneiro no reconhecimento do seu valor e aplicabilidade clínica. Foi ainda presidente do Conselho Científico e Diretor da mesma Faculdade, que assistiu a todo o seu caminho académico e profissional. |
