| Title: | Long-term management of patients with autoimmune encephalitis: a systematic review |

| Abstract: | Introduction: We sought to critically summarize the existing literature on patients with Autoimmune Encephalitis, aiming to clarify if there is enough scientific evidence to support the recommendation of a specific strategy of follow-up and long-term management of these patients. Results: 37 studies were included in this review, with 1515 patients reviewed, out of which only 68,4% had any mention of follow-up. 6,8% patients had a registry of relapse, a tumor was detected in 13,3% and 5,3% passed away. Conclusion: This review shows there is a large gap of knowledge on the long-term management of patients with Autoimmune Encephalitis. |
| Description: | Introdução: Procurámos resumir criticamente a literatura existente relativamente a pacientes com Encefalite Autoimune, com o intuito de esclarecer se existe evidência científica suficiente para apoiar a recomendação de uma estratégia específica de acompanhamento e gestão destes pacientes a longo prazo. Resultados: 37 estudos foram incluídos nesta revisão, com 1515 pacientes revistos, dos quais apenas 68,4% tinham qualquer menção de seguimento. 6,8% dos pacientes tinham um registo de recidivas, foi detetado um tumor em 13,3% e 5,3% faleceram. Conclusão: Esta revisão demonstra que existe uma grande lacuna de conhecimento quanto à gestão a longo prazo de pacientes com encefalite autoimune. |
