| Abstract: | In the period between the 5 December 1917 uprising the end of the Monarchy of the North, the municipality of Peso da Régua was the stage for a political dispute between the Republicans and monarchists. The advent of the 'New Republic' revealed the existence of a monar-chist political faction with strong ties to the leaders of the 'cause', that would eventually see Peso da Régua play a strategic political and mili-tary role in the collapse of the Monarchy of the North. |
| Description: | No período que mediou entre a Revolta de 5 de dezembro de 1917 e o fim da Monarquia do Norte, o concelho de Peso da Régua assistiu ao confronto político entre republicanos e monárquicos. O advento «da República Nova» evidenciou a existência de uma rede política mo-nárquica, com fortes ligações às cúpulas da «Causa», que acabaria por conferir ao concelho de Peso da Régua um papel estratégico, em ter-mos políticos e militares, no decurso da Monarquia do Norte. |
