| Title: | The role of scapular dyskinesis on rotator cuff tears: a review of the current knowledge |

| Abstract: | Scapular dyskinesis can be present in healthy individuals as in patients with shoulder pathology. It is no consensual if the altered patterns of scapular kinematics cause or exacerbate rotator cuff tears pathology. Regardless of being the cause or the consequence of rotator cuff tear, scapular dyskinesis impairs shoulder function, worsens the symptoms, and compromises the clinical intervention success. The first recommended treatment for rotator cuff tears is the physical therapy, and it should address scapular dyskinesis whenever it is present. Surgery is reserved for non-responsive cases. Post-surgical physical therapy protocols after rotator cuff repair must consider scapular dyskinesia to improve the outcomes. |
| Description: | A discinésia da omoplata pode estar presente tanto indivíduos saudáveis, como em indivíduos com patologia do ombro. Permanece por esclarecer se a alteração da cinemática escapular causa ou agrava a patologia da coifa dos rotadores. Independentemente de ser a causa ou consequência da rotura da coifa dos rotadores, a discinésia da omoplata prejudica o funcionamento do ombro, agrava a sintomatologia e compromete o sucesso das intervenções clínicas. O tratamento de primeira linha para a rotura da coifa dos rotadores é a fisioterapia, que deve ser dirigida à discinésia da omoplata sempre que esta estiver presente. O tratamento cirúrgico está reservado para os casos que não respondem ao tratamento conservador. Os protocolos de fisioterapia após a reparação cirúrgica da coifa dos rotadores devem também ter em conta a discinésia da omoplata, para uma otimização dos resultados. |
