Abstract:	The political and partisan reality of the Upper Douro accompanied, throughout the First Republic, the national panorama. Several strategies have been rehearsed to consolidate the Republican regime in the face of conjunc‑ tural challenges such as the division of the Republican Party, in 1912, or the «Monarquia do Norte», in 1919, reflecting the ability to mobilize on the part of Republicans alongside a strong monarchical influence in the Douro Region. However, it would be the «Douro issue» the determinant factor in the political positioning of the regional elites, that by using the networks of political socia‑ bilities that have been building, sought to constitute a group of pressure on the central power.
Description:	A realidade política e partidária do Alto Douro acompanhou, ao longo da Primeira República, o panorama nacional. Foram ensaiadas várias estratégias no sentido da consolidação do regime republicano face a desafios conjunturais como, por exemplo, a cisão do Partido Republicano, em 1912, ou a Monarquia do Norte, em 1919, reflectindo a capacidade de mobilização dos republicanos face à permanência de uma forte influência monárquica no Douro. Contudo, se‑ ria a «questão duriense» o factor determinante no posicionamento político das elites regionais que, servindo-se das redes de sociabilidades políticas que foram construindo, procuraram constituir um grupo de pressão sobre o poder central
