Abstract

Conversation continues in our times as strong as it has been in the past and, because of its utility and frequency, it is one of the marvels of the human race and of the life in society. For this reason, in Antiquity rhetoricians had already theorized the rules in which good conversation should take place. These rules are somewhat different from the rules of "oratio", which also help building a speech, but in a more individual and formal way. Thus, I will talk about the rules of good conversation between two or more people, both in an atmosphere of debate and in a simple chat, as they were presented by the ancient authors, rules that still remain current. I will highlight the different types of conversation, in which the "oratio" is distinguished from the talk and the good rules by which the conversation should be conducted, many of which are common to individual and formal speech.
