De la cathédrale à la ville: le transfert des pratiques de l'écrit à Braga aux XIIIe et XIVe siècles

Abstract

After the restoration of the diocese of Braga in 1071, the production of administrative (either civil or ecclesiastical) documents of the Prelates or of the chapter, justified the existence of an archiepiscopal chancery. The advent of the public tabelliones in Braga in the thirteenth century, nominated by the archbishop as he was the lord of the city, changed the usual process of drafting documents used there: from that moment on the episcopal notaries and the public tabelliones correspond to the two faces of the same activity. In this work, we will try to verify if the formulas used by the episcopal notaries in the documents of the cathedral survived in the drafting of the acts of the public tabelliones, or, on the contrary, if the rules of the "ars dictaminis" of these changed the practices that existed in the Chancery until that time. In addition, other practices related to the preservation of documents are also analyzed, because they can give important information for the purpose of this work
