Abstract

Luís Pereira Leite stood out as a pioneer of Portuguese Maternal-Fetal Medicine during the late twentieth century, improving this area through a vast scientific legacy. He maintained the Obstetrics Service of São João's Hospital in the international leadership of the study of modern means of diagnosis. Equally memorable was his work in the first National Commission for Maternal and Child Health. He became notable in the scientific, academic, assistance and organizational areas, reaching a unique status as a defender of the fetus, newborn and parturient. He also stood out for his enormous intellectual availability, being remembered for his absolute integrity.
