A Casa Velha da Macieirinha - A Reabilitação e o Problema da Autenticidade em Arquitetura

Abstract

"[...] architecture is the only means we dispose to conserve live the bond a past to which we owe our identity and which is constitutive of our being." The present Dissertation, The Casa Velha of Macieirinha - Rehabilitation and the authenticity problem in Architecture, is based on the reflection about issues concerning to the authenticity and methodology of architectural intervention in the context of pre-existences, through the execution of Casa Velha's rehabilitation project. This structure of vernacular architecture, located in the hamlet Quintas da Macieirinha, Torre de Moncorvo, was originally edify in the 20's of XX century and archaically built in schist, however it is currently in a very debilitated state. Sough drawing a proposal from an analysis and interpretation of context to pre-existences, grounded on an intervention deontology. At this way, the project reverts from the phenomenological study, which makes this exercise a theoretical and practical process. Diligence it to cogitate about the difficulties of preserving the architecture's authenticity, in order to guarantee the transmission of its truth to future generations, in dialogue with modern standards of habitability, according to the effort to provide a new and profitable meaning to these buildings. It will be the architect's responsible role for contributing to cultural patrimony preservation, particularly as in this case belonging to portuguese rural universe, in the intent of renew the collective memory. Resort to project's instrument as response to rehearse in practice some of the concluding ideas of this study.
