dc.description	A presente dissertação pretende estudar a cidade de Vila Nova Santo André, uma cidade planeada de raiz na segunda metade do século XX e que, nos poucos anos da sua existência, sofreu vários reveses. O interesse pela reflexão sobre esta cidade em concreto advém por um lado da sua singularidade no panorama nacional e, por outro, da familiaridade e vivência durante largos anos na mesma. Através de uma pesquisa documental, tanto da cidade em estudo, como de outros exemplos de cidades edificadas no século XX e de estudos de crescimento urbano, pretendemos documentar os processos realizados ao longo do seu desenvolvimento, desde a sua idealização, aos planos e projetos previstos para o futuro. Consideramos também bastante pertinente, o estudo breve do território ao qual a cidade pertence, pois esta integra um sistema que promove relações que, direta e indiretamente, são relevantes para a sua constituição e funcionamento - hinterland-.
dc.description.abstract	This dissertation intends to study the city of Vila Nova de Santo André, a city planned from scratch in the final half of the 20th century and that, in the four decades of its existence, suffered many misfortunes. The interest for the reflections about this particular city lies in two sides: the unique nature of the city in the national panorama and the familiarity with the city by residing in this town for half of its existence. Through extensive research about the city in study and other examples of cities built during the 20th century and from various studies about urban growth, we intend to document the processes that materialized during its development since its idealization to the projects planned for the future. We also consider the brief study of the territory to where the city belongs as very significant, as it integrates a system that promotes relationships that are, direct or indirectly, relevant for its constitution and functionality: hinterland.
