Política e Arquitetura, uma questão social. Evolução da Habitação social em Valongo

Abstract

The thematic idea of this dissertation came from the need to understand the relationship between Politics and Architecture. Here is debated the relationship present since early years and in a way that's not very perceptible in our daily basis. This need was felt at the moment when there was the perception of the existence of social housing far away from downtown, public buildings, commerce and services. Based on the idea of relating these two major themes, the intention is to study the evolution of Social Housing in Valongo, having as comparative parameters its urban insertion, the internal organization of the house and its constructive systems. The reason why Valongo was choosen, is because it was the city where i was born and raised, and also the city that aroused me the curiosity of social housing, and the injustice oh housing in general. For that, it was choosed one social neighbourhood from the Fundo Fomento de Habitação (Housing Development Fund) constructive period, and other from Programa Especial de Realojamento (Special Relocation Program) constructive period, because this two programs were the ones that had more affluence on the county of Valongo. With the intention to understand if the two programs were applied thinking on the true population problemas and if they could solve them, or if it somehow worsened or undermined their experience with the rest of the city.
