Isaías Cardoso, arquitecto desde 1953. Uma leitura da Obra a partir da Figueira da Foz

Abstract

Isaías Cardoso was a Portuguese architect that began is practice in the year 1953 in Figueira da Foz, a city far away from the main centers of artistic development in Portugal, namely, Lisbon and Oporto. He was part of the generation that mainly contributed to the ideological and formal revolution in architecture, contradicting the "Estado Novo" imposed style. Within the context of this study, a bibliographic research about the architect's life and work took place. Starting from there, a series of extensive interviews were conducted with Isaías Cardoso, leading to the selection of six works on which we focused our study. In this way a profound analysis about his professional practice became possible, from the beginning of his career to his most recent work. The purpose of this thesis has a particular emphasis on placing the architect in an artistic and historical manner, for a consideration about his way of thinking and working based on his speech and writings.
