| Abstract: | This article explores the use of the concepts of time, space and their affinities in a historical text about the railway in Portugal. This is the first report on the railway network in operation (1858), which reveals the positions of João Crisóstomo de Abreu e Sousa - engineer, military and politician (1811-1895) - regarding time savings and the reorganizing role of the railroad on the market, territory and civilization. |
| Description: | O presente artigo explora o uso dos conceitos de tempo, espaço e suas afinidades num texto histórico sobre o caminho de ferro em Portugal. Trata-se do primeiro relatório sobre a rede ferroviária em funcionamento (1858), que revela as posições de João Crisóstomo de Abreu e Sousa - engenheiro, militar e político (1811-1895) - relativamente à economia de tempo e ao papel reorganizador do caminho de ferro sobre o mercado, o território e a civilização. |
