Vers un Enfant. Le Corbusier e o espaço da criança na Unité d'Habitation

Abstract

Abstract Proeminent work of Le Corbusier, the Unité d'Habitation at Marseille represents one of the most significant author's work, making a mark on the architecture of the XX Century. It represents the so longed materialization of the architect's research on an improved lifestyle, in an attempt to achieve in this Unité and in it's followers a perfect hull for the society. The concern about the Child centered space won't come as a fortuitous position. If on the one hand it is a natural approach, given the multifamily nature of the project, on the other hand it is an attitude that equals the international debate of the theme, as the Child has, in the XX Century, a main role as a figure of social regeneration. The inclusion of the Child's daily routine in the Unité would reveal itself to be a sucessful example and, furthermore, an important factor that would guarantee the functioning and sucess of such project. Even though this position towards the Child's space is not an exclusive to Corbusier, it's by the relevance of his model, and considering other similar approaches, that one can understand its importance and universality. The analysis of this work intends to reveal the importance of the architect approach, considering the Child position in the architecture discourse at the time, and also carrying a reflexion about the importance of such Child centered spaces as elements of social construction.
