Abstract

The essay's main subject is the city of São Paulo. The head-objective it to fully acknowledge the current city structure, ambience and urban image. Once identifi ed and presented the core-theme during the fi rst chapter, the essay's second chapter turns to the most relevant events since the city's establishment. The fi nal purpose is to comprehend the shaping process and the city evolution, embraced during a confi ned historical period. The features and specifi cities from contemporary São Paulo are developed during the second part of this work, not only directed to the dualities identifi ed through the centrality's, infrastructures and society characterization, but also turned to its identity structuring elements. Therefore, São Paulo Explanation evolves holding on four structural points: Presentation, Development, Dualities and Identity, fi nishing with the explanation for São Paulo's future.
