Reabilitação do Moderno. Faculdade de Economia do Porto, um caso de estudo na interpretação e conservação do património moderno

Abstract

The present dissertation is based on the study of rehabilitation proposals for a modern building, the Faculty of Economics of Porto, as well as the analysis and critical exam about the implemented options by the team designers and their direct relation with the clients.The developed work records a logical and concrete reasoning on the intervention processes of modern architectural heritage, enhancing the objectivity and specificity of rehabilitation interventions. In this sense it was necessary to frame the related questions to modern heritage, covering briefly the various theories and concepts linked to the international charters that over time were creating role models and guidelines for the protection of modern architecture. In the same sense we analyzed the work carried out by institutions such as DOCOMOMO and ICOMOS that focus their action field in the evolution of the underlying problems to the preservation of modern heritage.While we approach to the main objective there were analyzed some successful interventions in buildings of the modern movement, in order to understand how its related issues, to the conservation of this heritage, are being solved on the field.Although the specifics of modern architecture have put some questions to the theoretical framework of conservation and heritage restoration, it is considered that the intervention processes of this architecture in no way different from the interventions of traditional buildings, to the extent that each case is unique and singular, which its conceptual characteristics and materials justify different ways of action and different intervention options.
