A indústria do Porto na primeira metade do séc. XIX

Abstract

In short this is a reproduction and analysis of two unpublished industrial enquiries from 1845 and 1852, the manuscripts of which are to be found in the Ministery of Public Work Archives. Their main interest is the fact that they cover a transitional period of great importance in the process of industrial development in the north of the country, with particular emphasis on the cotton industry. Basically it shows the changes, both at a levei of technical organisation and labour management accompanied by local migration from the centre to the ontskirts of the city.
