A relação semântica lexical-sintaxe na gramática generativa : um breve balanço a propósito da natureza aspectual e da estrutura argumental de alguns tipos de verbos

Abstract

After a brief presentation of the interface between Lexicon and Syntax in previous models in Generative Grammar, five main perspectives on the relationship between aspect and argument structure are discussed: (i) aspect and related notions are given by enriched lexical representations (Jackendoff 83, Zubizarreta 87, Levin & Rappaport 88 and 95; (ii) verbs assign aspectual roles (Tenny 94); (iii) lexical structures are conceived as syntactic structure(Hale & Keyser 93); (iv) aspectual values are direcly given by syntactic structures and verbs are inserted in appropriate positions (Erteshik-Shir and Ropoport 95); aspectual values are given by different functional categories (Borer 96).The paper shows that the reflection about aspect and argument structure appeared in Generative Grammar with the discussion about the notion of thematic roles and the nature of lexical representation. And it is suggested that the decision about the most adequate framework will depend not only from «descriptive adequacy» but also from «explanatory adequacy».
