Safira: proposta de intervenção na aldeia alentejana

Abstract

Alentejo always fascinated by its undulating plains and the long shadows projected by the cork trees and holm oaks in the montado, the olive trees all aligned, the warm breeze with the smell of dry crops and the villages and hills concentrated and unified by the lime paint. Portrayed in the Atlantic, this region surrenders its soul to the Mediterranean. Safira, a small village is an idyllic and mysterious scenery. The church located on a small hill, overcomes the landscape. Around it, we can find more three buildings in ruins protected by lime painting. A small valley sprinkled with cork trees, holly oaks and olive trees that rest on a green and red grass mantle. There also rest the dead, lonely, in the cemetery padlocked on the other side of the dam. The building rehabilitation is one of the most discussed issues in architecture. The interest and urgency to study more about regenerate and rehabilitate rural heritage will allow adapting it to different ways of living, new constraints and other ways of building. The present dissertation intends to explore the operating field of the architecture in the rehabilitation of vacant premises, through an intervention proposal for this particular village, compromised by time and desertion. The starting point will be an extensive working method that brings together a rigorous building survey complemented by theoretical research, crossing different case study projects that serve as a methodological reference. The village is the topic to historical, architectural, constructive and landscape analysis. Identifying issues and intrinsic values of the region in study will define an intervention strategy in order to implement the revitalization of the small Alentejo's village.
