| Abstract: | The present dissertation develops a study about São Jerónimo's Chapel, constructed in the XVI Century, on the top of Restelo's hill, within the land belonging to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Belém. The complexity of the chapel and its evident architectonic value and significance, regarding the geometry of the facades, volume's proportion and composition, materiality and relation between sobriety and the detailed ornament; and from the territorial point of view, in the affiliation that it establishes with the Monastery and the São Vicente Tower, likewise the Santo Cristo Chapel, that also integrated the monasterial wall, justify a proper reflection. Thus, this research minutely analyses the architecture of the building, starting with the author's survey, without obliterating the site's context, and its urban transformations since its origins, reassembling the atmosphere that prevailed before the XX Century, when it emerged on the hill, between walls, on the interface between interior and exterior, and on the limit between two worlds. |
| Description: | O tema da presente Dissertação é a Capela de São Jerónimo, construída no século XVI, no alto da colina do Restelo, dentro dos terrenos pertencentes à cerca do Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Belém. A complexidade da ermida e o seu claro interesse do ponto de vista arquitetónico, no que toca à geometria dos planos, proporção e composição dos volumes, materialidade e jogo entre a sobriedade e o rico detalhe ornamental; e do ponto de vista territorial, na relação que estabelece com o mosteiro e com a Torre de São Vicente, bem como com a Capela de Santo Cristo, que também integrava a cerca monasterial, são dignos de reflexão. Assim, o trabalho faz uma análise arquitetónica pormenorizada sobre o edifício, a partir de um levantamento realizado pela autora, não deixando de o entender no contexto do lugar, dando conta das transformações urbanas que o acompanharam, desde a sua origem, e reconstituindo o ambiente que a rodeava antes do século XX, quando rompia da colina, entre muros, na interface entre o exterior e o interior, e no limite entre os dois mundos. |
