Projecto para um hotel na Boavista. Um exercício em contexto real

Abstract

First of all one needs to have an idea. The idea is the starting point as ethereal as inexhaustible. A project is made of ideas which are the fuel of the project. The idea emerges and one draws a line. One follows the line as if it were a map. This dissertation thesis is presented as an Atlas: a set of ideas which are themes and which are maps. An array of reflections on scattered contents which support and, at the same time, are generated by a set of different materializations that culminate in the last representation of the project idea. The main goal is not to produce a specific or an ultimate solution for a new hotel in Boavista. It is above all, the action of wandering around the initial idea which starts getting its shape and changing throughout a process that contemplates the participation of a genuine client. Thereby, the formulation of this project concept ranges between a particular order, the willingness of a client, the interpretation of the place and, simultaneously, it gives rise both to the exploration of a certain way of thinking and the way one builds one's own way of thinking. Instead of building the project, one builds here the tuning of a subjective approach about the architectural creation for a specific place. Some options are made and the pitch is produced behind the pursuit of a flexible solution, a picture or of the expression of a new building in the city. A seven storey hotel in front of the famous "Casa da Música".
