Sanatório Albergaria - do abandono da construção à produção de uma nova realidade

Abstract

The ruin of Sanatorium Hostel located in Cabeço de Montachique establishing yourself as a study object of this thesis. Before the characterization of the context in which it operates, we try to understand its importance to the location in order to develop the project of transformation of Cabeço de Montachique ruin. This work, organized into three chapters interconnected and divided into subchapters, is the exposure of a line of structured and continuous thought. Thus, at first, it presents the background and history of the ruin context in space and time. As regards the architecture imposed by the sanatorium ruin Albergaria, we will present a brief description of the architecture produced by its architect, Rosendo Carvalheira, integrated in a broader view of the production of a so-called architecture "Anti-Tuberculosis". Characterized the "story" that the ruin of the Sanatorium Albergaria carries, and safeguarding its importance, we seek, in a second moment to develop a reflection on the ruin, landscape and memory, and understand the different approach of a ruin strategies. These different ways of looking at the ruin raise a number of theoretical concerns that anticipate the third time - the development of the project. In this third and last time we present the policy proposal developed as the main object of this dissertation. The project description is divided based on the three stages of evolution, accompanied by drawings and working models.
