Abstract

"A certain way of leaving the memory which we are" tries to propose an intervention that eventually may be linked to a methodology of reabilitation. An approach which works as an alert to the loss of authenticity and identity caused by interventions that don't fulfill their purpose of guarantee the preservation of patrimony. It is through the study of the theoretic and pratical legacy left by Raffaele Stern, in a time when it was starting to feel the uprising care necessity of the protection the architectural memories for the future generations, that the intervention is suggested. The work is divided in five chapters, whereas the demonstration of the principles of the intervention are present in the third chapter. The 1st chapter is about the written legacy of Raffaele Stern and his two works of restoration - the Collosseum and the Arch of Titus. The 2nd chapter portrays the historical perpective of interventions, in restoration, the production of the international Charters and concluds with the enunciation of the ideas that will be the base of the present proposal. The 3rd chapter introduces the case study - "a Casa de Santo Tirso" - revealing its characteristics, history and general context. The 4th chapter is the intervention, in a theoretical perpective, where is shown the reflection of the studies of the protection of patrimony and memory made in the previous chapters. The 5th chapter presents the final conclusions. The goal is to study a new way of intervention which unrolls on the intention of preserving the identity, authenticity, history and memory through the of the building, extending its life, making it useful in the present with a document value.
