| Abstract: | The historic center of Porto, UNESCO World Heritage Site, is being object of several interventions, as well as adjacent areas. However the existence of many vacant buildings, mostly single family homes, namely bourgeois houses, which are still nowadays relevant elements of the various stages of the evolution of the city. Being currently urban intervention an unavoidable issue for the safeguard of the historical heritage, there is a need to explore the adaptability of this type of buildings, which have been built in another era and for other uses, while maintaining its identity. The completion of traineeship in architectural studio addressed the author's interest to the solutions currently adopted in the interventions made in the bourgeois houses of Porto. As such, the dissertation is developed following a study aimed to the comprehension of the dialogue between the existing building and the contemporary intervention in these buildings. This thesis develops a study on five different interventions and the solutions adopted to overcome the problems of bourgeois houses as: the lack of natural lighting indoors, the shortage of complete bathroom and thermal and acoustic comfort, as well as the absence of garage and lift. The case studies were selected to encompass a wide range of solutions, allowing the study of adaptability of these houses in different contexts that is frequently limited by the decay of de pre-existence. These cases have been chosen in order to encompass different degrees of intervention, types of bourgeois houses and uses. On the other hand, the choice was determined by the availability of information provided by the architects, so it could be possible to attain a balanced study of all cases. Thus, this thesis is presented as a study that gives an overview about current interventions made in bourgeois houses and intends to demonstrate a number of possible and differentiated solutions to that can be used to overcome the main problems. |
| Description: | O centro histórico do Porto, património mundial da UNESCO, tem sido objecto de diversas intervenções de reabilitação, que se estendem pelas áreas adjacentes. No entanto, ainda se verifica a existência de muitos edifícios devolutos, na sua maioria de habitação unifamiliar, nomeadamente casas burguesas, que chegaram até aos nossos dias como elemento marcante de várias fases da história da cidade. Sendo actualmente a intervenção urbana um tema incontornável para a salvaguarda do património histórico, torna-se necessário explorar a adaptabilidade deste tipo de edificado, que foi construído noutra época e para outros usos, de forma a reutilizá-lo mantendo a sua identidade. A realização de um estágio num escritório de arquitectura despertou o interesse da autora para as soluções actualmente adoptadas nas intervenções efectuadas nas casas burguesas do Porto. Como tal, a dissertação desenvolve-se no seguimento de um estudo que visa a compreensão do diálogo entre o edifício pré-existente e a intervenção contemporânea nestes edifícios. Nesta dissertação é desenvolvido um estudo sobre cinco intervenções distintas e as respectivas soluções adoptadas para ultrapassar os problemas transversais das casas burguesas como: a falta de iluminação natural no interior da habitação, a carência de instalações sanitárias completas e conforto térmico e acústico, assim como a inexistência de garagem e de elevador. Os casos de estudo englobam uma vasta gama de soluções, permitindo estudar a adaptabilidade destas casas em diferentes contextos, condicionados muitas vezes pelo estado de conservação. Estes casos foram escolhidos de forma a contemplar diferentes graus de intervenção, abranger tipologias de casas burguesas distintas, com usos diversos. Por outro lado, a escolha foi determinada pelo equilíbrio de informação disponibilizada pelos arquitectos, procurando apresentar o mesmo nível de detalhe em todos os casos. Assim, a dissertação apresenta-se como um estudo que transmite uma visão transversal sobre a intervenção contemporânea na casa burguesa e pretende demonstrar várias soluções possíveis e diferenciadas para as principais carências. |
